Ember at the Threshold

Ember at the Threshold

Breath fogs the dusk-lit doorway; colors bruise to plum and coal as the veil thins and ember glows. Lanterns lift, threshold-work stirs, ancestor-footsteps hush the air. Step lightly — carry a small flame — and enter.

October #ObscuraWednesday — Monthly Theme Reveal

What is #ObscuraWednesday? A living field of occult, esoteric, and arcane creativity — an aperture where symbol, poem, image, rite, and sign co-resonate without being emptied of their mystery. It’s open to all artists and occultists who feel the call: bring work, bring wonder, or simply bring your attention. Makers and witnesses enter together.

Each Wednesday, we gather in the liminal light on Bluesky’s #occultsky stream; the current moves in real time as we share, read, and reverently witness. Post with #ObscuraWednesday, weave with the week’s theme, and let the hidden speak.

How it works

  • Open themes, not directives. They’re seeds that lend momentum; follow them closely or sidelong — both are welcome.
  • All mediums welcome. Poetry, short prose, ritual notes, photography, illustration, sigils, generative or glitch, field recordings, talismanic design — if it hums with symbol, it belongs.
  • Makers & witnesses. Sharing is making; so is deep attention. If you only retell an image in words, compose alt text, or reflect on a piece, you’re in the current.

October — Veil & Ember

October opens like a dusk-lit doorway: breath condenses, colors bruise into plum and coal, and the year begins its holy descent. We move from the measured balance of Libra into Scorpio’s deep well — scales set down for a lantern and a rope. This is threshold-work season: unbinding old contracts, listening for ancestor-footsteps, practicing honesty that heals instead of harms.

This month’s current favors rites of remembrance, warding, divination, and renewal. It’s a good time to mend a cord, retire a sigil, or let a mask reveal rather than conceal. Let image, poem, rite, and symbol carry you — gently — into the dark that teaches.

Notables this month

  • Samhain (Oct 31–Nov 1) — Cross-quarter hinge of the year, when the ancestral door swings easiest. Build or refresh the altar, speak the names, and let divination be a conversation, not a test.
  • Halloween (Oct 31) — The playful miracle of the mask: trickster medicine, threshold humor, protective wards in plain sight. Honor the child and the witch in one breath.
  • Sun enters Scorpio (~Oct 23) — A turn toward depth and clear-eyed tenderness. Good for oath-revision, shadow scrying, and truth told with medicine in it.
  • Hunter’s Moon (October full moon) — A gathering moon: harvest what hunts you (habits, patterns), and offer it new direction.
  • Draconids & Orionids (mid–late October) — Quick, nerve-bright meteors: write one-line spells or intentions as they fall—brief sparks, clean cuts.
  • Mischief Night (Oct 30, in some regions) — Trickster rites: laughter as banishing, sweetness as shield.
  • Dark Moon (late month) — Clear the altar (Hekate’s Deipnon for those who observe), leave what must be left at the crossroads, and invite only what you can truly keep.

Step lightly, carry a small flame, and let October’s hidden doors open in their own good timing.

Bring what the light has been whispering in your darkness. Post on Wednesdays with #ObscuraWednesday, cite the theme, and consider adding a one-line note on how it’s moving through you. Those who only come to witness — you complete the circuit.

We vow each week to hold the field open, keep the symbols luminous, and let mystery remain inviolate. Attend with reverence; kindle vision into flame.

Enter the Current

All are welcome here. #ObscuraWednesday carries an occultist’s thread, yes — but you do not need to be a practicing occultist to participate. Come as artist or not-artist, as seeker or simply-curious witness. And if you are a practicing occultist, you do not need to be an “artist” to belong; a line of prayer, a ward you just bound, a sigil sketched on a receipt — these are art enough.

Treat your post as a small rite: a way to discover more about yourself and who you are becoming. Let the work reveal you — gently, honestly, without hurry.

How to step in:

  • Post on Wednesday with #ObscuraWednesday and name the week’s theme.
  • Share in any medium: image, poem, ritual note, sound, sigil, reflection.
  • Add a line of intention or alt text — witnessing is part of the magic.
  • Makers and witnesses both complete the circuit; responding with care is participation.

This Wednesday, bring one true thing to the threshold. Tag it #ObscuraWednesday, name the theme, and let the hidden speak through your hands. We’ll meet you in the liminal — lanterns lit, mystery intact.
